The Straight Cut Transition
1) A Straight Cut Transition is simply one that switches from one shot to the next, with no other effects or visible edits made to indicate a changed transition. The Golden Standard right here.
2) Straight Cut Transitions are used by simply moving from one shot to the next. Because of this simplicity, it keeps continuity in the scene between shots. In addition, it also accurately connects the story and keeps the viewer focused on the plot or event rather than the visual transition effect as a distraction.
3) A jump shot is very similar to a straight cut, except it is much more noticeable, as it creates a bigger effect of a jump forward in time or a way to show progress. A dissolve shot blends a shot with the shot following it as a transition, and these are super apparent as it is vital for the viewer to know that a new scene will be following from the previous one’s. It may also mean a pause into a black or white screen, or a pause in general, still for the same purpose, however these all still connect one part of the story in a linear forward manner.
An example of a dissolve shot.
