Critical Reflection - Social Groups and Conventions

Image
Conventions In its truest sense, my video intro follows all the conventions of a standard film and drama. My film focuses on topics on the meaning of life for an individual and is based on realistic and relatable events.  Dramas often include dramatic scenes that can often symbolize topics and issues addressed in the film, or even foreshadow later events.  The setting of the story is a close one for most people, that of a home, a yard, a bed, and a computer. In this way, the story feels personal and connected to the viewer. Social Groups A drama is based on an individual, an individual must have a personality or circumstances that pertain to at least one social group. As a current student, I represent a student, who hopes to find better happiness in their work. - The scene of a messy desk and preparing to work again is a common sight to see when a day is cramped and loaded. A relatable scene for many students. - This scene symbolizes what I see to be a common cause of the feel...

Audience Engagement 3

Intended Audience) - Other students and those following a rough or exhausting workforce.  Social Group and Issue Representation) - Because of my intended audience, the social group I intend to represent are other students and those working in jobs that do not offer a good work-life balance. As a result, I also represent the issues of the stressful modern lives many people live, which is many times unavoidable. The intention is to at the very least enjoy the things we have at our disposal, as well as to identify the things in our lives that trouble us. Relatability) - Because of the nature of modern society and the drive and expectations to succeed with hard work, in one way or the other, this will have an effect on every working or studying body watching this video.  This is because enjoying life is most likely the goal for human beings, and one of the biggest obstacles and challenges in most lives is from the combination of both work and personal lives. My film intro focuses ...

Distributing Media and Advertisements.

How would you distribute your product as real media?  What 3 forms of advertisement would you use to promote your video? Why would you use these forms of advertisement? 1) Video Advertisement - Given that this is a film, a video advertisement through a trailer would be effective in portraying the film itself visually and audibly.  2) Social Media  - Social media is a wide and expansive way to reach potentially millions of people. If you were a big-time moviemaker, the film you made would have been heavily invested in, and properly reaching out to as many people as you can could would make the production worthwhile.  3) Billboards and Posters - External (or out of online/on a screen) advertisement is also effective done right. Physically going to out to social gatherings and seeing an advertisement for a film could spark conversation about the film, or at least ingrain itself into the heads of people.   Name at least 3 ways you would distr...

Issues and Solutions with my Final Video

Issues) Resolution  Quality Processing Power Single Producer Resolution) One of the biggest issues during this was the absence of my GoPro, due to its issues. For the most part, large cinematic views/changing resolutions would be pretty difficult with an iPhone, but I made do with it. Quality) In addition to the resolution, the quality of the videos also suffered. iPhones are generally pretty good at taking still pictures and videos, but with scenes with high movement, closeups, poorer lighting, or far-away zoomed scenes, the quality can be terrible. To counteract this, there are some online services as well as built-in Premiere Pro effects that can make the appearance of low-quality video less obvious. This was only my last resort though since the GoPro dying was not expected.  Processing Power) Many editing software and software that uses effects or uses high quality or large file-sized clips rely heavily on the processing power of your PC. No workaround for this witho...

Progress Video 5

Video  Link For the most part, the issues with filming and camera steadiness were fixed with better angles and some editing using warp stabilizer and zoom effects. The main issues this week are with framerate and quality, both of which are out of my control due to my weaker hardware, though color corrections and some fancy effects could make the appearance of such a bit less visible.  In addition to the weaker hardware, heavy editing or nested edits are very hard for my computer to process and render, making minor changes almost impossible to regularly create.  This week, I quickly edited the first 30 seconds of the video to be completely finished. The overall resolution and template are also now set in stone.  Editing is kept simple, following a set template of a cinematic bar/resolution and regular zooms that make the video appear smoother, but still natural. Filming was also simpler this week as well. In the following days, most of the raw video will be recorded a...
