Synergy

Synergy is when people or groups work together in a positive relationship in order to benefit or create one thing that brings out the best in both. It works in a way that creates a product that would be better than if they were to be made or done separately. Metaphorically, it would be multiplying the products rather than adding them together. Oftentimes, this happens with advertising, such as a film teaming up with a toy company, both to attract viewers and attract more toy purchases. This can be done with things such as product placement in a movie or film, merchandise, or a direct positive endorsement of a certain thing, especially of one popular film to another, in an advertisement.  Stranger Things and Kentucky Fried Chicken - In this example, the characters eat dinner during an important plot point of the show. The characters discuss the plot as they eat KFC, with the main character, Steve Harrington, even saying KFC's signature slogan - "It's finger-lickin' good...

Convergence

Media convergence is the blending of ideas, cultures, technology, and physical access to information. With new technology, we are able to access everything at once, all in one place, and the blending of that combined with the new connectedness to the rest of the world unifies information around us. Some examples are: - TVs broadcasting music, news, sports, etc, instead of needing music records, newspapers, or a stadium ticket.  - Calculators, Weather, Encyclopedias, and Games all being able to be accessed on one smartphone. - The Ring and The Grudge, are popular films made in the U.S. and are remakes of Japanese original films.  - The election of a new president is closely observed by the rest of the world since America's influence on foreign involvement varies between presidents. One of the best examples of convergence is on my computer, as I listen to music while doing schoolwork, while also searching for information, with the time on a part of my screen, and also having gam...

Sound Design in Film

Diegetic Sound is from the universe the characters are in, such as dialogue or the sounds the objects used make. You can hear it, and the characters can hear it as it happens. It is used to immerse the viewer into their world because you experience what the characters experience. Even sounds added after filming count, if the characters would technically experience it, such as the artificial sounds of an explosion we hear can be heard as a normal explosion in universe.  Scene (Spoilers) from Avengers Endgame - In this example, dialogue and some sound effects of the gear and movement, but dialogue is still the main sound we hear, and because of the quietness otherwise and focus on dialogue, we feel immersed into the scene, and makes the scene all the more emotional.  Non-Diegetic Sound is sound not from the universe the characters are in, and cannot hear, such as music or voiceovers. It is used to improve a scene that otherwise would not have been as effective without added effe...

To make my first video, I gathered all my ingredients. It is definitely not the most traditional, since it is instant, but I got my soy sauce and mirin first in line, then the boiling water and egg, and then my bowl and garnishes.  I used Canva as my editing software, as it is simple and all that is needed, with the text and the beginning and end of the film. It does not have a user-friendly style and is generally confusing.  I used a standard iPhone 11 to film the video. This caused the video to be shaky, and I was unable to use two hands. However, nothing was attached to me and I was able to easily move it around, but that's about it.  The hardest part was cracking the egg, as I am not good at using one hand. The best way I can really start to produce videos is by having access to better editing and materials, and ultimately learning way more basics and experience of filming a video.

First Video First Storyboard By me, and only me. I put together my storyboard very quickly, since I was restricted to a phone, and one take. My ability to cook was the only thing I had to plan out in my head, and I had a general plan of what to make and in what order to do it so that I was able to film in one take, such as having an assembly line of a kitchen setup of first to last, as well as having every ingredient, as I made instant ramen.  Because of my inability to do much more than the record, this is the most basic thing I could do, with almost no prior planning but the idea. In retrospect, I definitely could've set up my scene better.
